The last straw was when her sister dies in a car accident, and she has to take care of her niece. She starts to bond well with Lina, then the estranged father shows up and brings her Italy. For a happy ending, Maria eventually reconciles with Mario, and with his help, they travel to Italy to bring back Lina. They marry and open their own restaurant.
