Didn't preview the trailer before watching the movie. Had no idea the actors would be singing their lines and performing all the songs in full. Had I known, I would've watched the actual musical itself.
That said, the movie is quite good. There are some things that can only be done well in cinema (and special effects), and not on stage. Am impressed with the actors with their acting and their singing prowess, especially Russell Crowe (Javert) and Anna Hathaway (Fantine) and Amanda Seyfried (Cosette). Who would've thought these guys could actually sing?! Sacha Baron Cohen and Helena Bonham Carter (Monsieur and Madame Thénardier) are very much in their element. Quite impressed with Daniel Huttlestone (Gavroche). Cheeky kid.
Only complaint is the incessant sniffling and crying from the audience towards the end of the movie.
