I still can't believe Martin Scorsese would make The Aviator. And what made Cate Blanchett agree to be part of the movie? The first time she spoke, I thought it's all a joke. The fake accent with a drawl was so contrived, anybody can do it. Leonardo DiCaprio and Cate delivered some great acting, but nothing can save the boring plot.
Story is about the life of Howard Hughes - rich, spoiled brat who later became a billionaire aviator-hypochondriac. Hughes' life is interesting enough - partying with Hollywood types, living on the edge, a bit of government conspiracy - but it doesn't translate to the big screen. To liven things up, we get this conflict/tension between Hughes and Kate Hepburn. And the million times we have to be reminded that Hughes is an O.C. hypochondriac. For weeks he locked himself up naked in his home theater, drinking milk from bottles and replacing them with urine. The next day, he's back to his suave, confident self defending himself in a congressional hearing as to how he got millions of dollars from the government, but never delivered any plane.
If it wasn't for the free movie ticket .....
