Another coming-of-age movie starring Jason Schwartzman, Bill Murray, and Olivia Williams. Jason stars as Max Fischer, a 10th-grade scholarship boy at Rushmore Academy, who is not interested in girls and academics, just the extra-curricular activities. In fact, he either founded or is the president of all the clubs in school. Aside from that and writing school plays, there's not much else happening in his life. A depressed local steel magnate Herman Blume takes an interest in him and mentors him. Eventually, Max falls in love with recently-widowed elementary teacher Miss Cross. As fate would have it, Mr. Blume also falls in love with Ms. Cross. They one-up each other until Max gets kicked out of Rushmore for trying to construct an aquarium in the middle of the baseball diamond. He cuts the brake line of Mr. Blume's car and that lands him in jail. He also leaked Mr. Blume's infidelity to his wife, so he (Herman) got divorced and had to live in a hotel. Max then released a bunch of bees into Mr. Blume's hotel suite. Mr. Blume fights back by breaking Max' bicycle lock, running over the bike with his car, then putting it back to the rack. He doesn't get jailed because he's a rich guy.
Later in the movie, Max realizes the futility of it all and the two patch things up. Max writes and produces another play in his new school to critical acclaim, the three of them become friends again, and Max gets a girlfriend named Margaret, who is infatuated with him.
Ah, if things were only so simple in the real world.
