Another American remake of a Japanese story. With a charming lead actor (I mean Hachiko, not Richard Gere), this sad movie is not too bad.
Story of a lost Akita puppy in a train station and his loyalty to his master. Every day, Hachi would accompany Professor Parker Wilson in the morning to the train station, and come back in the afternoon to walk him home. One day, Prof. Wilson had a heart attack in school and passes away. Yet, Hachiko would still go to the train station every single day and wait for his master to emerge from the station doors. This he did for the next ten (human) years, rain or shine, until he dies of old age himself.
In real life, the professor teaches at University of Tokyo and makes his daily commute from Shibuya station. In 1934, a bronze sculpture of Hachiko was installed outside one of the exits of the Shibuya station.
