For the past weeks now I've been watching Iron Chef and RocKwiz. It's interesting because one, I don't cook, and two, I'm the worst at pop music trivia. I can answer some of the questions in Who Wants to be a Millionaire, Temptation, and those sort of game shows, but my score is zero when we get to RocKwiz. Heck, I don't even know the guest stars they put on.
Iron Chef is this reality-TV style cooking show where two top chefs duke it out in the Kitchen Stadium. A theme ingredient is chosen by the host, and the two chefs have to come up with as many dishes as they can based on it. It's good viewing if you want to learn something from the pros.
Rockwiz is a rock trivia game show held at the Gershwin Room of St. Kilda's Esplanade Hotel. Hosting the show is the bubbly and beautiful Julia Zemiro, assisted by rock guru Brian Nankervis, and backed up by the RocKwiz Orkestra (made up of Peter Luscombe, James Black, and Mark Ferrie). Prior to the show, Brian quizzes the audience and picks out contestants for the show. The two teams of three go through several rounds with different themes. Scores are updated after every round with a burly bloke in a singlet (a.k.a. wifebeater) holding placards showing the scores. Winners go home with nothing more than the satisfaction of knowing that all that rock trivia they have in their heads is at least good for something.
