Movie 2006.07.11 - Forever Fever

This movie has been sitting in my laptop for quite some time. Finally managed to watch it during this slow night.

Forever Fever (a.k.a. That's the Way I Like It) is a Singaporean movie featuring local stars Adrian Pang and Medaline Tan. Story revolves about this kung-fu fanatic called Ah Hock (Adrian Pang) who joins a disco dance competition in order to buy his dream bike. If you think the plot's too simple, let's throw in a girl friend who becomes a girlfriend, a dancefloor bully, and a homosexual brother in need of a sex change. Based on those alone, I'm sure you can already guess 99% of the storyline. Hock works at the Oriental Emporium supermarket as a lowly salesclerk. He's a kung-fu nut and his other interest is choppers. One day, he and his mates and Mei (Medaline Tan) watches Saturday Night Fever, and he catches the bug. He comes home one night and his brother Leslie, who's studying to become a doctor, declares that he wants a sex change. Naturally, the strict father disowns him. To buy his dream bike, Hock decides to join the Galaxy Disco Dance Competition. Weeknights, he practices secretly with Mei. Closer to the competition date, Hock chooses a prettier girl as his partner, and this broke Mei's heart. She didn't show it, as they are only "friends". Someone else is not happy with the new arrangement - the top dog at the competition, so he gives Ah Hock a hard time at work and outside of work.

Now here's a lesson at tying up loose ends chop-chop:
  • Ah Hock is a kung-fu nut, so he can beat the crap out of the dancefloor bully.
  • Against all odds, he wins the competition, so he can pay for his brother's sex change.
  • What about Mei and his bike? Well, he and Mei represented Singapore in the world dance championship in Norway. Winning the third prize of $5000, he used the money to buy his dream chopper and drive Mei to Batu Pahat, Kota Tinggi, Cameron Highlands, Port Dickson, etc. You know how girls just love that. Two birds with one stone.
That's what I call a happy ending.
