I know this movie is not supposed to be a tearjerker, but someone I know was actually in tears after watching this.
The third and last(?) installment of the Shrek movie series has our main character pining for the good old days when he's a real ogre and the townspeople respect (read: fear) him. Rumpelstiltskin offers him a deal - an ogre for a day in exchange for one day of his life. Shrek later finds out that the chosen day is the day he was born. So effectively, he was never born, Fiona was never rescued from the tower, and Rumpelstiltskin goes on to gain control of the kingdom. When the day is over, he'll just vanish into thin air.
With the help of their friends, Fiona and Shrek defeats Rumpelstiltskin and the Pied Piper. They fall in love again, and kisses just before Shrek disappears. And that's how I met your mother.
